Intricate guitar playing spirals around luminous analog synths in Nick Herman's new braindance jazz album. Drawing equal inspiration from both IDM pioneers and 1970s jazz fusion masters, Nick unites his classical-flamenco-jazz guitar heritage with a small orchestra of modular synthesizers, drum machines, and vintage effects.

Choosing among many recordings from the past few years, he arrives on the other side of pandemic-oblivion with an idiosyncratic collection of tunes. These songs are funky, gentle, and eclectically joyous: transmogrified techno on tap.
